The fact that Isamu Noguchi’s iconic coffee table has been endlessly copied to the point of Mid-Century cliche shouldn’t detract from the intrinsic poetry and simplicity of its design and construction: two identical pieces of wood held together by a single pin, topped off by an organically shaped glass slab. Now, comes word from Herman Miller, the licensed manufacturer of the table for the last 50 years, that Noguchi designed the table as a birthday present for his sister. Brotherly love has never looked this timeless.
