Maybe it’s only appropriate that Lance Wyman’s 2008 screen print insisted on invoking the giddy optimism–and optics–of a bygone era. In politics, as in life, it’s funny how quickly time slips away.

If it was only three years ago that an intoxicating mix of youth and freshness, glamor and gravitas proved irresistible to artists and designers, then three years–politically speaking–is a very long time ago.

Whether or not Barack Obama can re-ignite the fire that defined his earlier, shining moment remains to be seen–but he may at least take solace in the knowledge that the current crop of would-be kings (and queens) is woefully incapable of inspiring any image this….well, groovy.
